What is Google PageSpeed Insights and Why Does My Website Need It?
Google PageSpeed Insights is a free tool from Google that analyses how quickly and efficiently a webpage loads. It measures website performance on both mobile devices and desktop computers and provides recommendations for improving speed, user experience, accessibility and technical performance.
A slow website can frustrate visitors, increase bounce rates and reduce the chances that users complete important actions such as contacting your business, making a purchase or submitting an enquiry.
Why Website Speed Matters
Visitors expect websites to load quickly.
If a website takes too long to display content, many users will leave before they even see what your business offers.
Website speed affects:
User Experience
A fast website feels professional and reliable.
Visitors are more likely to:
Read your content
Browse your services
Contact your business
Complete purchases or enquiries
Search Engine Performance
Google uses page experience signals when evaluating websites.
A website that loads quickly and provides a good user experience gives search engines better quality signals.
PageSpeed Insights helps identify technical issues that may affect your site’s performance.
What Does Google PageSpeed Check?
Google PageSpeed Insights analyses many areas of your website, including:
Performance
Checks how quickly your page loads and becomes usable.
Examples:
Page loading time
Render delays
Large files
Slow scripts
Server response times
Core Web Vitals
Google measures important user experience signals, including:
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) How quickly the main content appears.
Interaction to Next Paint (INP) How quickly the website responds when someone interacts with it.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) Whether elements move unexpectedly while the page loads.
Technical Improvements
PageSpeed provides recommendations such as:
Compressing images
Removing unused JavaScript
Improving CSS delivery
Reducing server delays
Optimising resources
Why JuiceBox Uses Google PageSpeed
JuiceBox can use Google PageSpeed Insights to help monitor website performance and highlight possible improvements.
Instead of manually testing your website every time, JuiceBox can help keep performance checks in one place.
How to get your Google Business Profile ID
A Google Business Profile ID identifies a specific business location inside Google’s business management system.
This ID is different from your Google Maps Place ID. JuiceBox may use this identifier later when connecting with Google’s business tools and APIs.
A Google Business Profile API resource normally uses a structure similar to:
accounts/1234567890/locations/9876543210
The account number identifies the Google Business account, while the location number identifies the individual business location.
Why JuiceBox may need this
Future JuiceBox integrations may use your Google Business Profile details to monitor profile information, availability and business listing data.
Important
Do not share your Google account credentials. Only provide the profile IDs required for integrations.
How to Create a Google Business Profile
What is a Google Business Profile?
A Google Business Profile allows your business to appear in Google Search
and Google Maps. It helps customers find your business information,
including your address, phone number, opening hours and website.
Enter your business name exactly as customers know it.
Choose the most accurate business category.
Add your business location or service area.
Add your contact details and website address.
Complete Google’s verification process.
Verify your business
Google may ask you to verify your business using methods such as video,
phone, email or postcard verification. Your profile will only appear fully
once verification has been completed.
After verification
Once your profile is active, keep your information updated. Add photos,
services, posts and respond to customer reviews regularly.
Next step
After creating your Google Business Profile, you can connect it with
JuiceBox by adding your profile details and identifiers.
llms.txt Check
What Is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a relatively new idea designed to help AI systems understand a website.
It is a simple text file placed at the root of your website.
For example:
https://yourwebsite.co.za/llms.txt
The idea is to provide AI systems with a simple, organised description of your website and links to the content that matters most.
Think of it as a quick guide to your website for AI.
Why would I need one?
Modern AI systems can find information from websites, but websites can be complicated.
A normal webpage may contain:
Menus
Images
Advertisements
Navigation
JavaScript
Footer information
Repeated content
Lots of design elements
An llms.txt file can provide a much simpler way of describing the important parts of your website.
It can point AI systems towards important information such as:
Who you are
What your business does
Your main services
Important pages
Documentation
Useful resources
Contact information
The proposal describes llms.txt as a curated, AI-friendly map of important website content.
Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?
No.
This is an important difference.
robots.txt is used to provide instructions to web crawlers about what they may or may not access.
llms.txt is intended to provide information and guidance about your website’s important content.
It does not replace robots.txt, and putting something in llms.txt does not block or allow access to that content.
Is llms.txt an official internet standard?
Not currently.
It is best described as a proposed convention rather than an established web standard that every AI company is required to support. Adoption is still developing.
That means having an llms.txt file is useful as part of preparing your website for AI discovery, but you should not expect it to automatically make your website appear in ChatGPT, Google AI or other AI systems.
What does our health check do?
We simply check whether:
yourwebsite.com/llms.txt
exists and contains information.
If it exists and contains content, the check passes.
If it is missing or empty, you receive a warning.
What should I do if this check fails?
You can create an llms.txt file for your website and place it in the root of your domain.
For example:
yourwebsite.com/llms.txt
It should contain useful information about your website and links to your most important content.
If you don’t know how to create one, ask your web developer to create an llms.txt file for you.
In simple terms
llms.txt is like a short “about this website” guide written for AI systems. It is optional and still an emerging convention, but it can help make your important website content easier for AI systems to understand.
Bing Webmaster Tools
Is Your Website Connected to Bing?
Bing is Microsoft’s search engine.
Like Google, Bing provides website owners with tools for monitoring their website in search results. These tools are called Bing Webmaster Tools.
Bing allows website owners to verify their website and then access information about crawling, indexing and search performance.
Why does this matter?
Google isn’t the only search engine.
Bing is also used by people to find websites online, so it is useful to make sure your website is properly registered with Bing.
Bing Webmaster Tools can help you identify things such as:
Crawling problems
Indexing problems
SEO issues
Markup problems
Search performance
Problems with individual URLs
Bing also provides a URL Inspection tool that can show whether a page can be crawled and indexed.
What does our health check look for?
Our health check looks at your website for the Bing Webmaster verification tag.
If the tag is found, the check passes.
If it cannot find the tag, the check gives you a warning.
Does passing this check mean I’m appearing in Bing?
No.
Just like the Google check, this check only confirms that a Bing verification signal exists.
It does not guarantee that your website has been indexed or is appearing in Bing search results.
What should I do if this check fails?
Set up your website in Bing Webmaster Tools and verify ownership.
Bing provides several verification methods and gives you the verification information from your Webmaster Tools account.
If you don’t know how to do this, your web developer or hosting provider can help.
In simple terms
This check makes sure your website has been verified with Bing. It doesn’t guarantee that your website appears in Bing search results.
Google Search Console
Is Your Website Connected to Google?
Google provides a free service called Google Search Console that allows website owners to monitor how their website appears in Google Search.
Before you can use many of its features, Google needs to know that you actually own the website. This is called website verification.
Why does this matter?
Connecting your website to Google gives you useful information about your website in Google Search.
For example, Google Search Console can help you see:
Whether Google has discovered your pages
Search queries that bring visitors to your website
Problems Google has found
Indexing problems
Search performance
Technical issues affecting your pages
Google provides tools such as URL Inspection to help website owners understand how Google sees individual pages.
What does our health check look for?
Our check looks at your website for a Google site verification tag.
If that verification tag is present, we know that Google verification has been set up on the website.
If it is not present, we warn you that no Google verification tag was found.
Does this mean my website is in Google?
No.
This is important.
Passing this check does not guarantee that your website or pages are appearing in Google Search.
It simply means that a Google verification signal was detected.
Google still needs to discover, crawl and index your pages.
What should I do if this check fails?
Set up Google Search Console and verify your website.
Google will provide you with instructions for verifying ownership. Depending on the type of property you create, verification can involve methods such as adding a verification tag or adding a DNS record.
If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, ask your web developer or hosting provider for help.
In simple terms
This check makes sure your website has been connected and verified with Google. It does not guarantee that Google has indexed your website.
Is Your Website Domain Working?
Your domain is the main address people use to visit your website.
For example:
yourbusiness.com
Think of your domain as the street address for your website.
When someone types your website address into their browser, the domain needs to lead them to your website correctly.
Why do we check this?
If your domain cannot be reached, people may not be able to visit your website.
Search engines and other services may also have trouble accessing your site.
There are several things that can cause a domain problem, including:
DNS problems
Hosting problems
An expired domain
Server problems
Incorrect domain settings
SSL/HTTPS problems
The website being temporarily unavailable
What does the health check do?
We automatically try to access your website.
If the website responds normally, the check passes.
If the website cannot be reached, or the server returns an error, you will receive a warning or failure.
What should I do if this check fails?
First, try opening your website in a normal browser.
If it does not load, contact your web hosting provider or domain provider.
You can simply tell them:
“My website domain is not responding correctly. Please check the DNS, hosting and domain configuration.”
If the website loads normally in your browser but the check is failing, your hosting provider should still investigate the server response.
In simple terms
Your domain is your website’s address. This check makes sure that address actually leads to a working website.
Version Disclosure
What Is WordPress Version Disclosure?
WordPress websites can sometimes reveal which version of WordPress they are running.
For example, a website may publicly show:
WordPress 6.8.1
This information can be found through places such as:
Website page source
RSS feeds
WordPress-generated files
Publicly loaded scripts and styles
This is known as WordPress Version Disclosure.
Why Does This Matter?
Knowing your WordPress version does not give someone access to your website.
However, attackers may use publicly available information to identify websites that are running outdated versions of WordPress.
For example:
An old WordPress version may contain known security issues
Automated scanners can search for outdated websites
Attackers may target websites running vulnerable software
The important issue is not that your version is visible.
The important issue is whether your WordPress installation is up to date.
Is WordPress Version Disclosure Dangerous?
Usually, no.
Many WordPress websites reveal version information in some way.
A visible WordPress version does not mean:
Your website has been hacked
Your website is insecure
Someone can log in
Your data is exposed
A fully updated WordPress website is still protected, even if someone knows the version number.
The best security measure is always:
✅ Keep WordPress updated ✅ Keep plugins updated ✅ Keep themes updated ✅ Use strong passwords ✅ Use secure hosting
How To Reduce WordPress Version Disclosure
While hiding your WordPress version is not a replacement for updates, you can reduce unnecessary version exposure.
1. Remove the WordPress Generator Tag
WordPress may add a version tag to your website header:
<meta name="generator" content="WordPress 6.x.x">
A developer can remove this using:
remove_action('wp_head', 'wp_generator');
This prevents one common method of discovering your WordPress version.
2. Remove Version Information From RSS Feeds
WordPress feeds may also include generator information.
